Picked up this issue on eBay because it features one of my favorite Kid Cudi covers. By the time this issue was released in 2015, Kid Cudi had already become the artist who influenced me more than anyone else throughout my teens and early twenties. His music, creativity, and willingness to be vulnerable shaped the way I thought about making things and navigating difficult periods of life. While this cover was created to promote the Entourage film, I’ve always appreciated it for a different reason. The stark black-and-white photography, oversized typography, and chess motif make it one of my favorite magazine covers featuring Cudi. It represents an era of his career that I return to often, and I wanted a physical copy in my collection.
